Are there plans to finally include Calender as integral part in TB? This would really be useful.

Wait. Will this be in default releases?
I don’t remember hearing of this before. Had it been discussed here?
What is this based on? Does this use libpurple? Borrow heavily from Instantbird? Will this integrate with the rest of TB (contacts, users who are online showing up green in emails)?
What services will be supported?
I don’t use it but I’m sure Facebook would be a big win nowadays.

@Markus: Not sure about that yet, there is a bug filed though.
@Caspy7: See https://wiki.mozilla.org/Features/Thunderbird/Instant_messaging_in_Thunderbird
Trying it out might also answer some of your questions, though be sure to expect bugs

@Caspy7: It doesn’t use libpurple (which is GPL’ed). It does borrow heavily from Instantbird: Instantbird’s back-end has been rewritten in JS during the last few years, and the XMPP and IRC plugins have been replaced recently with MPL’ed JS implementations. For Thunderbird 13 it won’t integrate with the address book or the email headers, but these features are definitely planed for the next releases. Supported services are currently Google Talk, Facebook Chat, IRC and Twitter.

In regards to the end of Florian Quèze’s comment: I noticed that the services listed (namely Google Talk and Facebook chat) are XMPP. Does that mean that any XMPP server is supported or just those specifically?

@betazed: Currently only these services, but we are working toward allowing other XMPP servers, the details are discussed in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=735215
