Changelog for previous release (Thunderbird 2.0.0.6) | Changelogs for other Thunderbird releases
Released on 14 Nov 07, and this changelog was last updated on 17 Nov 07.
Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0.0.9 has been released. Release notes are available. This post lists the improvements in Thunderbird 2.0.0.9 over 2.0.0.6. This list encompasses almost every single known fix that went into this release. Do check out the known issues as well.
The Gecko 1.8.x branch (Thunderbird 2.0.x series) will not include any groundbreaking features that Gecko 1.9 brings, since it is based on Gecko 1.8. Additionally, in order to synchronize the version numbering with Firefox, 2.0.0.7 & 2.0.0.8 were dropped in favour of 2.0.0.9.
Impact key for security issues listed on the Mozilla Foundation Security Advisories webpage:
- Critical: Vulnerability can be used to run attacker code and install software, requiring no user interaction beyond normal browsing.
- High: Vulnerability can be used to gather sensitive data from sites in other windows or inject data or code into those sites, requiring no more than normal browsing actions.
- Moderate: Vulnerabilities that would otherwise be High or Critical except they only work in uncommon non-default configurations or require the user to perform complicated and/or unlikely steps.
- Low: Minor security vulnerabilities such as Denial of Service attacks, minor data leaks, or spoofs. (Undetectable spoofs of SSL indicia would have "High" impact because those are generally used to steal sensitive data intended for other sites.)

Loving the bird still. It’s been a trusty and reliable work horse for me for such a long time and I always look forward to each release.
Intrigued to see what will come with version 3!

This page would not print correctly using Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.9. It printed the first page, text ran off the bottom, and no more pages were printed.
Using IE7, it printed just fine. Strange…

Please add a horizontal scroll bar in the left hand pane where newsgroup names are listed. This is similar to OE and will allow for the full name to be displayed instead of the awkward abbreviations. Thanks! I really like TB.

With version 2.0.0.9. the junk filter does not work properly. ie. previously **SPAM** in the subject will automatically goto the defined junk folder, but after update 2.0.0.9 is appplied, it does not automatically direct the mails with this subject heading to the Junk folder defined. (no such problems encountered with 2.0.0.8)

It’s a pity that the fix to bug #379625 (which leads to compatibility problems when importing certificates from KMail) has not yet been integrated into a release version even though it has had the status “FIXED” since May.
Now it seems that I (a KMail user) will have to wait for yet another Thunderbird release until I can (maybe) finally read mails that were encrypted using my certificate 🙁

Well done guys!!

The Junk filter won’t move items marked as junk to the trash folder – actually, it won’t move them anywhere. It’ll mark them as junk, but doesn’t do anything with them. I’ve got the settings right and the older version used to move it automatically, but for now I have to select each one and delete it myself. Hope you can fix this bug next time around! I upgraded to Firefox 2 this past Sept. Now I’m having problems with e mail. Getting error messages telling me that the system is unable to save the
message as draft. Unable to open the Temp. file.
Now I’m unable to send any e mail at all. I don’t know if I should just uninstall Firefox/ TB or just upgrading will help. I see a lot of others are having problems too. I run windows XP.

I have the same problem as our French-talking friend. The update does not install itself.
I am obliged now to update continuously, for it keeps sending the update to me.

Ver 2.0.0.9 messed up all my previous junk filter settings of ver 2.0.0.6. It also opened 2 or 3 error messages, when directioning to URL’s mentioned in mail texts.I sent a few back with descriptions
Once it also freezed my system while trying to open a message, ini.files corrupted (coincidence?), it took me a couple of hours and gallons of cold sweat to recover my XPSP2 without losses.
I had to configure all mail filers from the beginning and check them out, one by one.
I love Thunderbird, but I miss the old Netscape

I also have the updating issue. The program seems to want to update itself ad infinitum.
I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program. The program still tries to update once a day.
Is anyone else having this issue?

With TB 2.0.0.6, some of my folders automatically copied themselves, replete with files. Unfortunately, when I deleted one of the two identical folders, and then emptied the trash, all the files in the copy of the folder that I had not deleted, had vanished. All was lost! I hope that TB 2.0.0.9 has addressed and corrected those flaws.

Whenever I try to send a message, I get a window with Kerberos Authentication prompt, which I’ve never seen before, and have only gotten since the most recent update. Mine says the Realm is athena.mit.edu (I work for U of Michigan) but another person I work for has the same problem, but hers comes up with the realm as umich.edu automatically. We just have to press cancel without entering anything to make our mail go but it’s still irritating.
