Released on 27 Jul 06, and this changelog was last updated on 28 Jul 06.
Mozilla Thunderbird 1.5.0.5 has been released. Release notes are available. This post lists the improvements in Thunderbird 1.5.0.5 over 1.5.0.4. This list encompasses almost every single known fix that went into this release. Do check out the known issues as well.
The Gecko 1.8.0.x branch (Thunderbird 1.5.0.x series) will only bring stability and security bug fixes. As such, no new features will be added.
Impact key for security issues listed on the Mozilla Foundation Security Advisories webpage:
- Critical: Vulnerability can be used to run attacker code and install software, requiring no user interaction beyond normal browsing.
- High: Vulnerability can be used to gather sensitive data from sites in other windows or inject data or code into those sites, requiring no more than normal browsing actions.
- Moderate: Vulnerabilities that would otherwise be High or Critical except they only work in uncommon non-default configurations or require the user to perform complicated and/or unlikely steps.
- Low: Minor security vulnerabilities such as Denial of Service attacks, minor data leaks, or spoofs. (Undetectable spoofs of SSL indicia would have “High” impact because those are generally used to steal sensitive data intended for other sites.)

Try to view a message with 200 attachments (yes, such messages are possible).
The attachments part of the message window is not resizable and thus if there are really many attachments, the attachments part occupies the whole
screen and there is no way to see the message.
In my opinion, the attachments part of the message window must be limited in maximum height and should have a scroll bar.

The scroll bar for the contact list on Thunderbird is always obscured and requires the user to reduce the size of active write/compose window in order to
reveal thr scroll bar for the contacts window.
This problem has existed for ever and needs to be fixed!

Problem: Since Friday, 28 July 06 I cannot connect to Thunderbird. Each time I try, I receive a message saying “Could not connect to server 127.0.0.1. Connection refused.”
Can anyone tell me what’s going on?

Installed latest update and my address book still has an annoying delay every time it opens. It did not used to be this way. I am on XP with a fast machine. Address book is local and should open instantly. Don’t know what I did to change function. There are lots of confusing directions in Google and I don’t want to mess anything up — least of all my address book!

I’ve got the same annoying delay. It takes about 5 minuets to get the addressbook up. And the same time with the address autocomplete option. It takes forever! I’m with a 2.8GHz processor with 1Gb Ram.
I tried disabling the “TB change from and FCC on compose…” extention but it makes no difference.

When the search results window is larger than one page (with scroll bars), then date sorting only works for the visible entries. Those outside the window are not sorted.

Feature Request:
Need ability to EDIT the subject of any email item in the Inbox and then be able to save that email with the revised (edited) subject field. This feature has been available in Outlook for 10 years, since Outlook 97, and is invaluable for later search and retrieval of messages when the original “Subject” field was null or insufficient. This is a critical functionality deficiency in head-to-head comparisons with Outlook, when T-Bird is so rich in other feature areas.
Thanks

Bug since 0.6.
Every 10th (I didn’t count really, but it seems nearby 10) Forward crashes Thunderbird.
Filter is limited to nearby 600 entries? After adding more, Thunderbird looses older ones.
A sorting function or a provement if a filter has been set before would be nice. Combinations of AND and OR in a filter would be helpful to reduce the number of filters for one site.
Integration of gpg4win is not very comfortable.
After upgrading from 1.0.6 to 1.5.0.4 I had to add the complete mailadress (i.e. instead of mailto:jack because jack is an alias in our central mailserver, I had to write: jack@mailserver. That is uncomfortable and not amusing.
A second choice instead only mailbox should be maildir format. This increases the speed and simplifies virus scans.
Thanks.

With update of 1.5.0.5, all my email messages have changed to plain text. New HTML messages all appear as plain text. When sending bold, underlined messages, receiver gets message as plain text.

Not mentioned in the list of fixes that made it into 1.5.0.5:
340055: enable compatible extensions on downgrade
If you have an extension that works under 1.5, is disabled due to “incompatibility” when running any higher version, and then you fall back to 1.5.0.4, that extension will remain disabled, requiring explicit user enable + restart.
With 1.5.0.5 (and 2a1, etc), the extension will be re-enabled automatically.

With imaps folders, emptying a large trash folder (>1000 messages) then compacting folders seems to corrupt the preferences/configuration. I must delete prefs.js & redefine all imap accounts to restore the system. (Mac OS X 10.4 PowerPC; tb 1.5.0.5)

Hello
Since I have installed this new version 1.5.x.x, it is not possible to send mail with this smtp server: mail.bluewin.ch (provider: bluewin.ch). With Version 1.0.x.x I had no problems.
What happens?
Thanks for an information.

The attachment problem is still there. The attachment symbol (the zip, MSword, pdf etc symbol) is sometimes not shown. When a mail (mail1) has another mail (mail2) attached together with other attachments and mail2 is opened, the other attachments of mail1 are shown as attached in mail2 as well and when selected nothing happens. I hope that the bug of ver 1.5.0.4 in which when a mail with attachments was forwarded the attachment was sometimes changing type (eg a word doc was sent in an unknown format), is corrected in 1.5.0.5

I am using Windows XP (home) Since I upgraded to the newest version of Thunderbird (1.5.0.5) I have lost my Rich Text tool bar. (i.e. — bold, italics, underline, font color, font size, font style, smilies, etc.)
I have downloaded and reinstalled Thunderbird vs 1.5.0.5, but still nothing. How do I go about getting the Rich Text toolbar to appear again?
Thank you,
CJ

In using mozilla thunderbird I can not receive my in-mail. I keep getting the message that my inbox is full which is not true.
I’ve cleaned everything out of my system and reinstalled and still get the same message.
Help!

I can visibley watch, at times, my in box suddenly make a dramtic increase to the “count” in the inbox. For instance, it is now showing that I have well over 12,000+ items in the inbox. So times, it reduces count to a much lower #, but alas, very soon it is back to a huge count. I cannot find a way to “cleanse” / delete mail inbox with deleting each message one by one. When I scroll thru messages the are maybe a couple of hundred there…WUZZUP HERE???

I filter incoming messages that are not from fnal.gov into a “purgatory” folder. Under 1.5.0.5, when I click the folder and there’s only one message in there, its text appears in the message area but its subject/sender/date entry is gone from the [whatever it's called] area. So I can’t select the message to move it or delete it.
